This product is indentical to the Trace Tool Suite but includes
two additional things. First, it includes all source code so that
you can add two capabities and modify existing capabilities to meet
your specific needs. Second, it includes a printed API into the
low-level parser.
The intent of this product is to allow customers to make their
own trace processing tools and to modify the existing tools without
having to worry about trace file format changes breaking the parser.
Simply interface to the parser layer using the published API.
The parser has been written to be both backward and forward compatible
such that new trace data can be added to future simulalator versions,
and the parser can still parse the file. The post processing tools
simply extracts the information that it needs for its own post processing
purpose, and ignores the rest of the trace data.
There is a possibility that a future trace file format could change
such that the parser breaks. Although we specifically intend NOT
to do this, it is possible that some new capability necessitates
that we do so. But in this case, the API will remain the same, though
the parser layer would necessarily change. The customer impact would
you have have to rebuild your tool with the new, ASH WARAE-provided,
parser layer.
